Rangers have revisited Westerlo after the successful January signing of Tuur Rommens, but the Gers’ first offer for Bryan Reynolds has been rejected by the Belgian side.
Reynolds, 24, has been targeted as a replacement for James Tavernier, who is leaving the club this summer as a free agent after nine years of service at Ibrox.
Rangers already snapped up Westerlo left-back Rommens during the January transfer window for a €3.6 million fee in a deal that was one of their best last season, but their initial attempt to raid the side for the American right-back have been rebuffed.
Bryan Reynolds: Rangers have first offer rejected
Sky Sport Switzerland transfer insider Sacha Tavolieri reported on X: “Rangers FC have submitted an offer worth around €2.5 million for Bryan Reynolds that has been rejected by Westerlo and is unwilling to let him leave for that amount.
“Should other clubs enter the race, Reynolds has already given Rangers the green light regarding a potential move.”
Such an offer always seemed a long shot. Westerlo signed him for €3.3m from Kortrijk in 2023 having initially had him on loan for a year. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV), which is calculated using hundreds of in-game data points and based on thousands of historical transfers, sits at €3.8m.
Rangers previously got Rommens at a steal from Westerlo. The 23-year-old Belgian had an ETV of around €4.7m when he was signed by the Ibrox club six months ago for just €3.6m. A repeat of that bargain deal does not appear to be on the cards on this occasion, however.
Why Rangers want to sign Bryan Reynolds
Reynolds is regarded as an exciting attacking threat from deep. Blessed with incredible pace and strong aerial ability, his athleticism and cross accuracy are two of his major strong points.
The native of Fort Worth, Texas, has already won seven caps for the USMNT but has not been selected in Mauricio Pochettino’s World Cup side.
His impact on Danny Rohl’s side could be massive. Data analytics firm SciSports believes that he would arrive at Ibrox as the second-strongest player available to the German boss, with only Mohamed Diomande scoring a higher SciSkill rating, which is calculated using in-game data.

Reynold’s rating of 67.6 would put him within range of Celtic’s Alistair Johnston (70.3) to become the best right-back in the Premiership, and with a potential of 81.1, there is little doubt that he could be sold on at a substantial profit if everything was to fall into place for him.
Rangers’ first bid might have been knocked back, but it would be logical if the Ibrox side were to return with an improved offer. The Gers got a €1m discount on Rommens from Westerlo, but even if they were to pay Reynold’s full valuation of €3.8m, it would still look a smart piece of business.
