Marcus Rashford’s future at Barcelona continues to hang in the balance, with the on-loan Manchester United attacker desperately seeking a permanent move to the Camp Nou side.
Rashford has a €30 million buyout clause in the loan deal between Barca and Man Utd, but the Catalans’ decision to splash out €80m on Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, who operates in the same positions, has thrown the situation into turmoil.
The 28-year-old continues to hope for the Blaugrana to pull something out of the bag, according to Mundo Deportivo, but according to TV3, the Camp Nou outfit are closing in on a move for Bernardo Silva, which would represent another blow to the Englishman’s hopes of a deal switch.
Bernardo Silva to sign for Barcelona
Barcelona have made a sensational start to the summer thanks to their capture of Gordon. They are also in the hunt to sign Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez – though their La Liga rivals have mocked their lowball offer for the Argentine – but it appears a second deal is close with Bernardo Silva.
Out of contract with Manchester City, the former Monaco star will be a free agent at the end of June. Long linked with a move to Barcelona, the formalisation of a deal is only hours away, according to TV3’s report.
This claims that Barca have all-but finalised a deal with the Portugal star, who has accepted a ‘financially low’ offer to move to the Blaugrana.
Rashford’s Barcelona dream not over… yet
For Rashford, this is devastating news, though he has been offered a crumb of comfort in a report from Sport.
This states that Rashford and Roony Bardghji are likely to be affected by all the moves that sporting director Deco is orchestrating.
While it’s seen as very difficult for Rashford’s €30m buyout clause to be triggered, the possibility of Barcelona requesting another loan deal from Man Utd is not entirely pushed off the table.
The issue that Rashford now has is that his parent club is unlikely to accept another loan offer. United have been stubborn when insisting that Barcelona either pay the full value of his buyout fee or simply walkaway from negotiations.
The Premier League side are aware that they will likely be able to raise more than €30m for Rashford on the open market – his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at €38.5m. This is also money they need to conduct their own squad overhaul this summer, which is likely to see at least one defender, two midfielders and an attacker hook up with Michael Carrick’s side over the coming months.
Rashford’s hopes of a permanent move to Barcelona are therefore hanging on by the thinnest of margins.
