Manchester City are expected to launch a new bid for Elliot Anderson after Nottingham Forest rejected their opening offer for the England international.
It’s a development of interest to Arsenal because while they are not planning to enter the battle for the 23-year-old, his value could well shape the rest of the summer market where Premier League midfielders are concerned.
Firstly, City also have Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali on their radar – a player Arsenal like – while Manchester United are also keen on the Newcastle maestro.
Should City spend big on £100million-rated Anderson, it’s unlikely but not improbable that they will also move for Tonali.

If Rodri were to depart for Real Madrid or if Atletico Madrid-linked Tijjani Reijnders quit the Etihad Stadium, there would be scope for a second midfield recruit but that is far from guaranteed at this stage.

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s eye-catching end-of-season form means a midfielder is not a massive necessity but extra quality in the centre of the pitch would definitely be welcomed.
Arteta has also already made it clear that he needs to make ruthless decisions to push Arsenal to the next level and that’s what he is committed to doing.
A left-winger, midfielder, right-back and possibly a striker are all on Andrea Berta’s to-do list and the club has significant financial muscle following a historic season while also thriving commercially.
However, Newcastle are in total control of Tonali’s future is his contract runs until the summer of 2029 and the Magpies also have a one-year option they can trigger to protect his value.
