While American golfer Nelly Korda managed to finally win her first US Women’s Open after multiple bites at the apple, another popular LPGA golfer saw her drought at majors extended.
Korda managed to win this year’s tournament at Riviera Country Club by a single stroke, taking her second major of the year and overcoming her demons in the Open.
But it meant that English golfer Charley Hull, long tipped to win a major, came up short once again.
Hull, the popular 30-year-old known for smoking on the course and earning plaudits from the likes of Donald Trump, scored a final-round 67 off the back of a third-round 65 to keep the pressure on Korda.
But the American dropped in a nail-biting par putt to take the title for her own, leaving Hull still seeking her first major victory.
It’s surely painful for Hull, who has now finished in the top-10 in the last three majors she’s played in.Â

Hull made it a spectacle with a third-round 65 and final-round 67 to come up a stroke short
‘It’s just frustrating. Another second place. I think that’s five second place finishes I’ve had in majors now,’ she said (via Yahoo Sports).
‘So, yeah, it’s pretty annoying, but I played really well the last day. Obviously missed a couple putts on the back nine, but it was quite windy and I hit the ball fantastic so fair play to Nelly Korda for back-to-back wins.
‘But I just love playing in the majors. Like I pretty much only get up for the majors, it’s really weird. I just love playing in majors, like, if it’s a normal week-to-week I struggle sometimes getting the motivation.
‘But when it comes to major weeks, I just love it. If I just even make the cut I feel like at the weekend I can make a massive charge.
‘But, no, I loved it out there. It was so much fun. The crowds were great and it was nice to see so many young kids around.’
Hull finished tied for tenth at this year’s Chevron Championship at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, but has yet to win on the LPGA Tour.
She has, however, taken victory on the Ladies European tour when she won February’s PIF Saudi Ladies International.
Hull’s next chance to win a major will come at the Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine in Minnesota on the last weekend in June.Â
