Sir Keir Starmer has lauded the Arsenal players and supporters for showing “the best” of the club and community of North London. The UK Prime Minister, who regularly attends matches at The Emirates as a supporter, was delighted for Mikel Arteta’s side to have topped the table in the Premier League.
The route to the club’s desired goal was far from easy, but Starmer credited the Gunners’ manager and highlighted two key contributors from the playing staff, among others, in the group for getting their hands, finally, on the trophy.
“It has been a long 22 years, but finally we’ve done it,” Starmer exclusively told football.london. “Champions of England.”

“Whether it’s Arteta’s leadership, Trossard’s winner against West Ham, or 16-year-old Max Dowman having a breakout season, this squad showed real resilience to win the title.”
In the aftermath of the title win, Arsenal fans took to the streets to celebrate their team’s success, some experiencing a title victory for the very first time in their lives. Islington Council estimated that more than one million people attended the trophy parade, where the Arsenal men’s and women’s teams held the Premier League trophy aloft and celebrated the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
The Prime Minister said that the very best that Arsenal had to offer from both a player and supporter perspective had been witnessed, pointing to the joyous scenes as evidence of that.
“These players and fans showed the best of this club and community, and we saw that when North London turned into a sea of red during the celebrations. I am sure I echo all Gunners when I say I hope we can go one better next season.”
Arsenal have never defended a Premier League title, this being their fourth attempt having won in 1998, 2002 and 2004.
While The Gunners came close to European glory, Arteta will also surely be aiming to go one step further and win the UEFA Champions League, which is likely what Starmer was referencing as the hopes of next season have already begun to crystallise.
