Tottenham are in talks to sign Jan Paul van Hecke with his national team-mate and Spurs defender Micky van de Van having his say on the potential transfer
Micky van de Ven has admitted Jan Paul van Hecke joining Tottenham would be a good move having spoken to him about the club. The Brighton centre-back has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs as they prepare for a major overhaul under Roberto De Zerbi after just avoiding relegation.
Andy Robertson has already joined Tottenham and looks set to be followed into the club by Marcos Senesi. With those two deals wrapped up, the Lilywhites are now pushing for Van Hecke with his Netherlands international team-mate Van de Ven approving the transfer.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, as quoted by NU.nl, the Spurs star said: “I did talk to Jan Paul about Tottenham for a bit. I think it is a good step for him.”
Though he has just 12 months remaining on his contract at the Amex Stadium, Brighton want £70million to sell with CEO Paul Barber admitting they have already rejected two bids from north London.

He said on eSPORTY: “There’s always going to be a lot of interest in our players, and certainly in the case of Jan Paul. We’ve been very clear that that interest has been ongoing for a while.
“Yes, we have rejected a bid from Tottenham from the last week or so, in fact two bids. It has to be right for us and the player [to sell]. We have to be in the best positions to suit our model.”
Robert De Zerbi worked with Van Hecke during his time at the Seagulls and now looks set to reunite with him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Before that, however, the 26-year-old will be in action at the World Cup alongside Van de Ven where he will be going up against Lucas Bergvall’s Sweden in the group-stages.
If Van Hecke joins, Spurs will have a staggering six central defenders all capable of starting in the Premier League. Cristian Romero, Kevin Danso and Van de Ven are already at the club with Senesi to arrive as well.
Young talent Luka Vuskovic is unproven at that level but starred for Hamburg last season and has been called up to Croatia’s World Cup squad.
Radu Dragusin is expected to depart while Spurs’ transfer business suggests another loan for Vuskovic and currently Romero is the most likely option to be sold.
Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Guglielmo Vicario are other first-team stars that could be moved on. In terms of incomings, Manchester City star Savinho remains a firm target after Spurs failed to sign him last summer.
