Fulham of England dazzler, Alex Iwobi has been rated as a determined player who has what it takes to shine brighter and add to the 100 caps he will get with the Super Eagles against Portugal on Wednesday.

Sports247 reports that this verdict was offered by the former Arsenal youth team captain’s father, Barrister Chuba Iwobi, who admitted that seeing his son near the century mark with Nigeria is an amazing chapter for a story that began in 2015.
Barrister Iwobi reflected on his son’s first cap and recounted how marvellous it has being for the midfield star, who has featured at four Africa Cup of Nations, with silver (2023) and bronze (2019, 2025) medals to show, as well as 2018 FIFA World Cup.
“We remain ever grateful to the nation for the opportunity Alex has been given. Little did we know that this was the beginning of an amazing journey, which would lead to him achieving the milestone of a hundred caps and potential of many more.
“Alex loves playing for the nation and always gives his best. No one can ever question his commitment, devotion and patriotism while wearing the green-and-white. There have been highs and lows over the years, but he has emerged stronger.
“We are incredibly proud of Alex’s achievements and experience of playing for the country. We pray that he continues to excel and that the Super Eagles repay the fans for their love and support,” Iwobi Snr, who is also an ex-footballer, told thenff.com.
The proud father’s son, who played for Everton before joining Fulham, also stated gratitude to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora for the show of love and support they have given him in his international journey with the Super Eagles.
While looking forward to his 100th cap for Nigeria when they face Portugal in Leiria on Wednesday, Iwobi, who made his debut against DR Congo during a similar friendly in Visé, Belgium on October 8, 2015, said he is proud of his feats.
“I am proud to be where I am today; proud to wear the green-and-white. I am grateful to everyone, including the coach who called me up to the team for the first time. I have no regrets choosing Nigeria.
“After 10 years and eight months, I won’t say I am a legend; I only see myself as a Super Eagles’ player. It feels great to be looking at a 100th cap, and on a lighter note, I wish I can add another 100 caps. I have enjoyed my time with the Super Eagles.”
A media statement by the communications department of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) noted that Wednesday’s game makes it 128 months after Iwobi’s debut and he is making his 100th appearance in another friendly, also in Europe.
Iwobi picks his goal against Zambia’s Chipolopolo, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo in October 2017, which qualified Nigeria for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals, as his most memorable moment with the three-time African champions.
