Arsenal latest: Julian Alvarez makes decision on future as PSG revenge plan launched

Arsenal have been linked with moves for various players in the summer transfer window, including Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez

Arsenal have embarked upon the early stages of a defining summer for the club. The Gunners head into the transfer market as Premier League champions, having also come heartbreakingly close to rounding off the season with the Champions League trophy.

Having firmly established themselves among Europe’s elite, manager Mikel Arteta will be eager to extend the gap between themselves and their rivals. Arsenal ended their 22-year wait for the league title by assembling an impressive squad, yet there is scope to strengthen ahead of next season.

Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has repeatedly been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain also mooted as potential destinations. The 26-year-old previously demonstrated his quality at Manchester City before departing for Spain in 2024.

Meanwhile, shortly after their defeat to PSG in the Champions League final, the Gunners are reportedly targeting one of the French club’s most promising young talents. football.london rounds up some of the biggest stories surrounding Arsenal below.

Julian Alvarez decides on future

Julian Alvarez has reportedly ruled out joining Arsenal in the transfer window. The Argentina international has been the subject of speculation for several months but would reportedly prefer a switch to Barcelona this summer.

Spanish outlet Cadena SER has stated that Alvarez is not expected to push for an exit from Atletico. The forward is claimed to favour joining Barcelona, though negotiations between the two clubs are at a “standstill”.

Consequently, Arsenal are viewed as the “only realistic option” for Alvarez. However, Cadena SER adds that the forward has no desire to relocate to London, making it increasingly probable that he will stay at Atletico.

Spanish publication Sport has reported that PSG are also interested in Alvarez. Meanwhile, Cadena SER claims that Atletico are confident of retaining the striker and have already started mapping out their plans with him as part of the squad.

PSG revenge plan takes shape

Arsenal could reportedly begin exacting revenge on their Champions League final opponents PSG by securing a deal for Emmanuel Mbemba. PSG have offered the 18-year-old defender his first professional contract, yet he appears poised to leave the club.

Le Parisien reports that Mbemba has multiple options available, including interest from Ligue 1 outfit Paris FC. Arsenal are said to have also “presented its project” to the teenager following several scouting missions this season.

Mbemba is approaching the end of his youth contract at PSG. However, Arsenal would face a complication should the club pursue a move for the left-back.

Le Parisien claims that Mbemba may face difficulties obtaining a work permit, which would prevent him from joining Arteta’s squad immediately. This could strengthen Paris FC’s prospects of securing the prospect from their local rivals.
