Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt have received a prayer for quick recovery from the secretary-general of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Mohammed Sanusi, following an accident the team was involved in on Thursday, Sports247 reports.

Sanusi also expressed empathy towards the players, coaches and officials who sustained injuries in the accident, which occurred while the squad was heading to Awka for a President Federation Cup fixture against Nasarawa United of Lafia.
Scary photographs of the accident were splashed across social media late Thursday, with the team’s bus appearing to have run off the road and ended up in a bushpath.
However, while the driver’s door was flung open, cracks appeared on the windscreen and parts of the bus were battered, no life was reported lost in the incident that happened just outside The Garden City.
In response to the development, a press release from the NFF’s communication department noted that some of the team members suffered minor injuries, from which Sanusi prayed for their quick recovery.
Sanusi said, “The NFF received with shock the news of the road accident involving your players and officials around Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt.
“While we thank God that there were no fatalities, we empathise with those who sustained minor injuries in the accident and wish them quick recovery.”
Sports247 reports that the Port Harcourt-based side’s round of 16 clash with The Solid Miners is still expected to go ahead in Awka at 4pm on Saturday.
