Tourists staying in holiday flats in the resort of Amarilla Golf, Tenerife were shocked when a small plane made an emergency landing metres from their accommodation
Holidaymakers in Tenerife were left shocked this afternoon after a small plane crash landed just yards from their accommodation.
The light aircraft had been heading for the nearby Tenerife South Airport when it suffered some sort of engine failure.
The pilot had no choice but to bring the plane down and aimed for side roads near residential and holiday flats in the resort of Amarilla Golf. The landing spot was also just a few hundred metres from the area’s popular golf course.
The frightening incident happened at 5pm today but there have been no major injuries. It is understood both the pilot and co-pilot were unhurt but have been taken to hospital as a precaution and for check-ups.
The light aircraft had to make the emergency landing following a sudden loss of altitude.
The pilot was forced to land after the plane experienced a sudden loss of altitude while approaching Tenerife South Airport. The aircraft eventually came to a stop at a road intersection. While such incidents are rare, the event highlights the challenges of flying in areas with complex terrain and high tourist traffic, where pilots must react quickly to mechanical issues.
Emergency services, including the Tenerife Fire Consortium, local police and medical teams arrived at the scene to assist the crew. An investigation is now underway to determine the technical cause of the flight failure.
The occupants do not have any obvious trauma or injuries. However, due to the characteristics of the accident, they were transferred to a hospital to be evaluated.
A spokesman for the 112 emergency department said: “The ambulance crews dispatched by the SUC assessed the two occupants who exited the aircraft on their own and transferred them to a hospital for observation and further evaluation, although they do not appear to have serious injuries.”
“Firefighters poured a foam mattress over the area to prevent the fuel spilled on the road from igniting. The accident did not affect pedestrians or other vehicles.”
Firefighters focused on controlling the fuel spill by pouring foam on the plane and road surface.
