Cartel criminals dumped four decapitated bodies outside a government building in the latest shocking display of gang brutality.
The horrifying incident took place in the Mexican state of Guerrero, where police discovered the headless corpses inside an abandoned vehicle near the state congress building in the city of Chilpancingo.
The region is amongst numerous areas across Mexico currently gripped by a surge of violence, driven by fierce clashes between rival cartels battling for control of drug trafficking routes.
The drug cartels Cártel de la Sierra and Los Ardillos, a gang held responsible by indigenous communities for bombings in the impoverished mountain regions of the state, are the principal forces behind the conflict.
Last month, violence in the area forced the evacuation of an indigenous community, with drone strikes and gunfire attributed to Los Ardillos, reports the Daily Star.

A statement from the Guerrero Attorney General’s Office said: “The corresponding investigations have been initiated and ministerial and forensic procedures have been deployed to clarify what happened.
“Specialised forensic personnel carried out photographic and written documentation at the scene to record and preserve the evidence found.
“Furthermore, to ensure the comprehensive processing of the vehicle as evidence in the investigation, the unit was transferred to the Forensic Services facilities of this institution, where specialised procedures continue under controlled conditions that allow for the proper preservation of the physical evidence and guarantee the chain of custody.”
The bodies were reportedly sealed with plastic and wrapped in blankets, left across the back seats and boot of a white Nissan Sentra.
In a deeply disturbing development, three severed heads were sealed with grey duct tape and left on the passenger seat, according to photographs released of the scene.

The vehicle, along with the remains, was towed by a lorry from the Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), with the assistance of State Traffic Police officers, before being transported to the FGE’s Forensic Services facilities.
Police launched a full investigation as they work to piece together the facts surrounding the horrific crime. Forensic officers conducted photographic and written documentation at the scene in order to record and preserve vital evidence.
The grim discovery came just one day after a municipal employee from Quechultenango, a town in the Guerrero region, was shot dead on the very same stretch of road while travelling in an official vehicle.
Meanwhile, a group of Mexicans were uncovered allegedly running a methamphetamine empire from deep within a forest in Nigeria following a police raid.
Officers descended on the site after it was discovered hidden away in Abidagba forest in Ogu, arresting three Mexican cooks and four Nigerian nationals, while seizing 2.4 tonnes of drugs with an estimated street value of around £270 million.
The raid, which was carried out on May 16, was described by a spokesperson for Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency as targeting “an industrial-scale clandestine laboratory”.
