Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has already made a crucial transfer agreement amid interest from Barcelona, Arsenal and PSG.
Alvarez is increasingly becoming a player to watch in the transfer market, with Barcelona having spent much of the last week pushing hard to sign him following their successful €80 million raid for Anthony Gordon.
Atleti have knocked back any offers that have come their way but have lined up Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen as a potential replacement, giving hope to those teams that want to sign the South American.
Julian Alvarez transfer latest
Atletico Madrid have denied that they have received an offer from Barcelona, delivering a sarcastic message on social media on Friday that slammed Fabrizio Romano’s report that a bid had been tabled and also their rivals’ approach to the transfer market.
Since then, there has been plenty of movement. Sport has reported that PSG have met with Alvarez’s agent while AS claims that Arsenal have stepped up their interest and are ready to spend as much as €150m to sign the striker.
Reports from the Catalan press, meanwhile, state that Barca have made two offers for Alvarez. The first was €70m plus Ferran Torrres while the second was simply a flat bid of €100m. Atleti denied these claims.
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has since spoken out on the issue, explaining: “Julian Alvarez is an Atletico de Madrid player, and not just for this season, but for many more.”
Atletico Madrid have already made Barcelona promise
Alvarez has been in contact with Barcelona since February, at which point Atletico Madrid’s general manager Gil Martin asked him to remain professional until the end of the season. He then promised him that he would help him join Barcelona, El Chringuito claims.
The 26-year-old, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €111m and a contract that expires in 2030, has since told Atleti that he wants to move to Barca this summer. Alvarez has no intention of going public on this stance but is prepared to if it will force a deal through.
Why Alvarez should pick Arsenal ahead of Barcelona
Of the clubs chasing Alvarez, Arsenal is the best destination for Alvarez, according to the analysis of SciSports. Its Career Advice tool rates moves based on a variety of factors from potential development and pitch time to playing style and formation, giving each team a Club Fit score.
Arsenal come out on top compared to their rivals in the race for Alvarez, scoring 75.
This is a considerably better mark than either PSG (62) or Barcelona (59), suggesting that the Argentine would be better served pushing to return to the Premier League as opposed to chasing a switch to Camp Nou.
FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Mikel Arteta is prepared to use Alvarez as a left-wing solution with Arsenal, which is a caveat that may impact any decision he makes.
