FootballTransfers runs through the latest Chelsea transfer news on Tuesday 2 June, including fresh updates on Morgan Rogers, Ibrahima Konate, Marc Cucurella and Josh Acheampong.
Chelsea suffer Arsenal blow in Rogers pursuit
Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Morgan Rogers after learning the Aston Villa and England star is open to joining Arsenal, according to BBC Sport.
The Athletic understands the Blues are keen to sign a versatile forward in the upcoming summer transfer window, with Rogers – who The Telegraph claim has a price tag in excess of €92million (£80m) – sitting at the top of their wish list.
However, BBC Sport understands Rogers has indicated he would be interested in a big-money move to Arsenal, who are also believed to be keen on Bournemouth’s teen sensation Eli Junior Kroupi.
Blues look set to miss out on free agent Konate
Chelsea look set to miss out on signing Ibrahima Konate with the defender having reached a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid, according to French publication Foot Mercato.
The Athletic reported that the Stamford Bridge club had made a gentle enquiry to Konate’s camp following the news that he will leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the month.
However, according to Foot Mercato, Konate has now agreed a four-year deal with La Liga giants Real, with the move set to be completed should Florentino Perez win the club’s upcoming presidential elections.
Cucurella faces competition for Barcelona move
Wantaway Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has suffered a blow to his hopes of joining Barcelona after fellow target Alejandro Grimaldo expressed a desire to return to Spain.
Cucurella is understood to be exploring a move away from Chelsea, according to The Athletic, with La Liga giants Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid among the list of potential destinations.
However, in quotes carried by German publication BILD Sport, Barcelona-linked Grimaldo – who has just 12 months left on his contract with Bayer Leverkusen – said: “After so many years in professional football, I am used to the fact that there are always rumours in the course of my career.
“I’ve always said it: I want to go back to La Liga. That’s one of my goals. I’m very satisfied in Leverkusen, but I’ve always said that I want to go back to La Liga – and at some point I will.”
Acheampong will not be allowed to leave this summer
Chelsea have deemed Josh Acheampong “untouchable” after rejecting multiple offers for the highly-rated defender, according to eSPORTY’s transfer specialist Ben Jacobs.
Acheampong has developed a reputation as one of England’s most promising young defenders after emerging through the Blues’ famed youth system, making 44 appearances and scoring two goals.
And Jacobs claims the 20-year-old is a key part of incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso’s plans for next season, despite receiving interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
