Chelsea have appointed Xabi Alonso as their new manager ahead of the 2026-27 season and they are expected to sanction several high-profile deals during the upcoming transfer window.
The Blues’ business will be impacted by their failure to qualify for any European competition this campaign and with less fixtures on the schedule, it’s understood that a smaller squad will be prioritised in order to keep harmony at Cobham.
The west London giants have unsurprisingly been linked with a plethora of big-name players over the past few months, although it remains to be seen how much their transfer budget will be restricted by their hugely underwhelming 2025-26 campaign.

Chelsea were heavily linked with a move for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan last summer, but they ultimately decided against pursuing a deal and opted to retain faith in Robert Sanchez.
While the Spaniard is far from perfect, he performed fairly well throughout the 2025-26 season and he is likely to retain the gloves next term, with Mike Penders set to return from a loan spell at Strasbourg to become his number two.
Centre-back is a priority position, however, with the club eager to sign a suitable partner for Levi Colwill over the summer. It’s reported that academy starlet Josh Acheampong will not be offloaded as he could play a key role under Alonso, but a more senior option is likely to arrive.
A number of players have been linked with Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, and rumours of a move for Brighton & Hove Albion star Jan Paul van Hecke refuse to go away. The Dutchman has proven experience in the Premier League and with very few alternative options likely to be on the market, he could become the latest Brighton star to secure a Chelsea switch.
In midfield, a lot will depend on the futures of Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos, although a deal for Strasbourg star Valentin Barco has already been finalised.
Chelsea have been linked with both Elliot Anderson and Bruno Guimaraes over the past few months and although they are admired by the hierarchy, they feel out of reach. However, in a dream scenario, a move for Anderson could potentially take place if the injury-prone Lavia is sold.
Chelsea are also eager to bolster their attacking options and they want to sign an experienced, versatile forward who is capable of playing in multiple positions. Morgan Rogers fits this description perfectly and he is one of the Blues’ top targets for the summer.
Aston Villa may be forced to sell and Chelsea are keen to fight off significant competition from Arsenal for his signature.

Chelsea have an extremely bloated first-team squad and several players will need to be sold on permanent deals in order to fund their transfer business following their failure to qualify for Europe.
Filip Jorgensen is expected to be offloaded after spending two seasons as the back-up option to Sanchez, while loanees Tyrique George, David Datro Fofana and Axel Disasi are all likely to be sold permanently when they return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Meanwhile, offers will also be listened to for French centre-back duo Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana. The former is set to depart on a permanent transfer after falling out of favour last season and the latter could be sacrificed if a deal for Van Hecke is finalised.
As mentioned previously, Lavia may depart and it has been reported that clubs across Europe are eyeing a possible move. Chelsea would reportedly like to keep him if possible, but a sale may be required if they add a new midfielder.
Summer signings Alejandro Garnacho and Liam Delap both endured torrid debut seasons at Chelsea and the club are ready to sell them both after just one year, although they may struggle to generate significant interest.
Finally, Chelsea would ideally cut ties with Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who hasn’t played since November 2024 due to a doping scandal.
