Gabriel Jesus has made another declaration of his desire to leave Arsenal this summer and return to boyhood club Palmeiras after admitting he ‘thinks about the move every day’.
Jesus is expected to be sold this summer as he enters the final year of his contract with Arsenal, having been on the fringes of the first team since returning from a long-term injury in December.
The 29-year-old has made just two Premier League starts all season and has even been left out of some of Mikel Arteta’s squads, with all of Arsenal’s attacking contingent available and ahead of him in the pecking order.
Jesus has stated on numerous occasions that his dream is to return and play for his former club Palmeiras, where he began his career, and the Brazilian once again claimed that he ‘will be back one day’.
“I think about it every day, I follow it closely,” Jesus told ESPN. “It’s my dream, I’ve made it clear that one day I’ll be back, I just don’t know when, if it’s today, tomorrow, so I think about it every day.
“The future belongs to God, it’s a club I have a lot of affection for, I’m a passionate fan, I’ve spoken about it a lot and my choice when I return to Brazil will always be Palmeiras.”
Arsenal ready to upgrade on Jesus as Palmeiras provide ideal exit path
Jesus’ repeated admissions of wanting to leave Arsenal will have raised eyebrows to some, although Arsenal will probably feel some relief knowing that a parting of ways would be mutually beneficial given the forward’s declining role in the squad.
Despite being a key player upon his arrival from Manchester City in 2022, Jesus has been a bit part figure across the last two seasons due to injury and poor form.
Jesus netted 11 times in his debut season for Arsenal but he has only scored nine league goals in the three seasons since and the Gunners are willing to listen to offers for their former talisman.
Palmeiras, too, have declared that they would be keen on signing Jesus but it remains to be seen whether a deal is financially viable and whether they can meet Arsenal’s demands.
Arsenal may be willing to sanction a cut-price exit for Jesus in order to sign a new forward, with the likes of Julian Alvarez and Eli Kroupi being considered as marquee arrivals to boost Arteta’s title-winning squad.
