Arsenal are prepared to act swiftly as they seek to consolidate their successful 2025/26 season. The Gunners will be keen to give themselves a chance of retaining their Premier League crown while mounting a serious challenge for European silverware after a near miss against Paris Saint-Germain.
Julian Alvarez remains a long-standing target on their wish list. The Argentina international will attract plenty of suitors this summer, though Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta will no doubt also have their eyes on other potential additions.
Arteta has spoken about his side’s standards rising “every season” as he and his players look ahead rather than dwelling on Champions League final disappointment. Arsenal spent roughly £250million last summer and are unlikely to stop after ending a 22-year wait for a league title.

Huge Alvarez bid launched
Barcelona have doubled down on claims they have offered £86.5m for Julian Alvarez despite questions have emerged regarding the legitimacy of the approach. Atletico Madrid raised doubts over the weekend, but Barca maintain the proposal was submitted.
The Catalan club appear to be Arsenal’s primary rivals for the Argentine forward, who already possesses Premier League pedigree from a two-year spell at Manchester City. Alvarez has proven his capabilities in England, finding the back of the net 36 times, and has bagged 49 goals for Atleti.
While Alvarez wouldn’t represent a bargain, his goalscoring prowess and attacking versatility make him a genuine contender to join an elite club should he depart the Spanish capital. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal can rival Barca for a player who cost his current club more than £80m in 2024.

Arsenal have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27 season, said to incorporate classic Arsenal design features that tie into the club’s heritage.
According to pundit Micah Richards, Alvarez isn’t the sole target Arsenal should be chasing this summer, though he’s undoubtedly a fan of the South American. “He’s one of the best strikers in world football going into the World Cup and he’s a World Cup winner as well,” Richards said on The Rest is Football.
The former England defender concurred with presenter Gary Lineker that the Gunners also require fresh blood on the left flank and suggested they need another central midfielder too. “Bringing in [Christian] Norgaard has worked to a certain degree in terms of his temperament, so he’s not going to moan if he’s not playing,” the pundit and former England defender added.
“Myles Lewis-Skelly has shown he can definitely do a job in there. I just feel to get the best out of someone like [Martin] Zubimendi you need to be a little bit higher so he can get on the ball and distribute his passing from a little bit deeper and dictate,” he added.
“If they can get someone else in the middle with a [Declan] Rice, just a bit more more box to box, higher energy and aggressive. That, a new striker and another winger, they can compete for [the next] two, three, four years – that’s how good I think they can be.”
