Super Falcons Commence Preparation Towards Friday’s Friendly Against Senegal

The camp of Nigeria’s women’s national team, Super Falcons will open on Monday, as the squad commences preparations towards Friday’s international friendly with Senegal at Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Sports247 reports that Friday’s friendly will be followed by another at the same venue on Monday, as both teams intensify their plans ahead of this year’s Women African Cup of Nation (WAFCON), which will begin on July 25th in Rabat, Morocco.

Heading into the two encounters, Falcons’ coach, Justin Madugu has reeled a list of 23 players invited to commence training on Monday, with two home-based lasses included among the lot, as the crew also look into building for the future.

Invited from the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) are goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi (Rivers Angels) and defender Blessing Ilivieda (Bayelsa Queens), plus two foreign-based debutants – Belarus-based Blessing Nkor and Kafayat Shittu from Turkey.

A statement by the communications department of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) added, “The Super Falcons will host the senior women’s team of Senegal on Friday, 5th June with a second game between the two teams scheduled for Monday, 8th June.

“Senegal will play hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya in Group A of the 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations finals taking place 25th July – 16th August, while 10-time champions Nigeria will take on Egypt, Zambia and debutants Malawi in Group C.

“This year’s tournament will also serve as the qualifying competition for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals, with the best four teams qualifying directly to Brazil, while the fifth-placed will be involved in a playoff tournament.”
