Serena Williams is coming out of retirement to make a shock return to tennis at the age of 44.
The American, a 23-time grand slam champion, will play doubles at the HSBC Championships at the Queen’s Club in London next week almost four years after her last competitive match.
That is the tournament that takes place before Wimbledon, opening up the prospect of Williams making a return to the grand slam in London too.
