The Super Eagles have quickly turned their focus on Wednesday’s international friendly away to Poland, with great expectations that Saturday’s 3-0 spanking of Jamaica at the 2026 Unity Cup final will boost their confidence in the game.

Sports247 reports that most of the players who won the 2026 Unity Cup, which is officially known as Afro-Asian Four-Nation Invitational Competition, with Saturday’s victory will not be in Warsaw, Poland for the upcoming midweek friendly.
However, the team’s gaffer, Eric Sekou Chelle will carry the winning momentum and a couple of the players along with him from London to the East European nation, where they will face Poland’s main team at PGE Narodowy Stadium on June 3rd.
Chelle will bank on Nigeria’s winning aura to continue in Warsaw, as he takes the flight out of England with his head held high up, following another win for his second-string squad over Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz at The Valley on Saturday, thereby clinching back-to-back Unity Cup titles.
A statement by the communications department of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) noted in part, “USA-based midfielder Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi netted a brace, with stand-in captain Terem Moffi scoring in-between in south-east London.
“Abdullahi was quickest to the ball as goalkeeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke punched it out, following a long throw-in by Kenneth Igboke in the 4th minute and the Super Eagles’ early advantage spurred them to a commanding display.”
Sports247 further reports that Nigeria and Poland have only clashed once in a senior match, when the Eagles got a 1-0 away victory in an international friendly at Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw, on March 23, 2018, in preparation for the FIFA World Cup.
Victor Moses scored the only goal of the game with a 61st minute penalty, after he was brought down in the box by Polish defender, Marcin Kaminski, then got up to calmly slot the spot-kick past the hosts’ goalkeeper, Łukasz Fabiański.
The Nigerian defence was marshalled by William Troost-Ekong, while Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi held firm in midfield to keep Robert Lewandowski quiet and keep a clean sheet for then 19-year-old Francis Odinaka Uzoho, on his first Eagles’ start.
Incidentally, Uzoho was Nigeria’s ceremonial captain for the 2026 Unity Cup and he did the trophy handover to NFF top shots after the official presentation, but the Eagles’ on-field skipper was Moffi, who wore the armband in both encounters at The Valley.
