Reggae Boyz of Jamaica’s coach, Rudolph Speid has added another angle to previews ahead of his side’s clash with the Super Eagles at the 2026 Unity Cup final in London, as he says it’s always exciting to play against Nigeria, Sports247 reports.
While speaking during the pre-match media conference for the fixture at The Valley, Speid gave respect and due recognition to the Super Eagles’ prowess over the years, but went on to declare that his side will be all out to snatch victory on Saturday.
He noted that the Eagles have won all three previous encounters between both teams in this competition, hence his desire and determination to have a different story to tell at the end of Saturday’s encounter, which he admitted will be tough.
The Reggae Boyz’ gaffer concluded with a revelation that his players are fired up to spring a surprise against the defending champions, as they aim to consolidate on how they forced a 2-2 draw in last year’s final, before losing it via penalties.
He will again bank on both scorers from their 2-0 victory over India – Courtney Clarke who netted on his debut and Charlton Athletic forward Kaheim Dixon – as The Reggae Boyz romped into the Unity Cup final for the second year running.
“Nigeria have always beaten us every single time before. I am hoping that’s not the case this time. But it’s always exciting to play against Nigeria. They play exciting football and are one of the powerhouses in Africa, so it’s always good.
“We always look forward to playing them. Last year was very exciting, it was a 2-2 draw. This year, I hope we’ll have a better result against them,” Speid enthused, while emphasizing that the Super Eagles are not unbeatable.
