Jamaica will on Saturday bank on Charlton Athletic attacker, Kaheim Dixon to spur them to victory against Nigeria with ‘home advantage’ in the 2026 Unity Cup final at the stadium of his English Championship club, Sports247 reports.
Dixon already showed the positive effects of playing at ‘home’ with his national team, as The Addicks’ hitman got a very late goal in Jamaica’s 2-0 victory over India to set up a repeat of last year’s final with the Super Eagles.
It took penalties for Nigeria to defeat The Reggae Boyz last year at Brentford’s BTech Stadium, also in London, but things could turn out to be a lot tougher this time, as Dixon is leading the assault with the aura of playing on familiar terrain.
Dixon played the full 90 minutes of Wednesday’s second semi-final and he was a bright spark all throug, as he struck their second goal of the evening 11 minutes from time to consolidate Courtney Clarke’s fifth minute opening strike.
The 21-year-old Dixon, who slso had his effort saved by India’s goalkeeper at his near post early on and was denied again from a similar position later in the first half, said he was glad to score ‘on home soil’ and hoped for more versus Nigeria.
Incidentally, Dixon, who now has 24 caps for his country, is also hoping to repeat his feat of scoring in last year’s Unity Cup final, which ended in a 2-2 stalemate after regulation time, before Nigeria went on to win via penalties.
It’s now left to be seen if Saturday will bring another heroic outing for Dixon, who was born in Trench Town, Kingston, Jamaica, where he played for Chapelton Maroons and Arnett Gardens, then moved to Charlton Athletic on August 23rd, 2024.
