FootballTransfers runs through the biggest rumours and gossip from 27 May, including the latest updates on Morgan Rogers, Enzo Fernandez and Nico Paz.
Arsenal step up Rogers pursuit
Arsenal are accelerating their efforts to sign Aston Villa superstar Morgan Rogers, eSPORTY reports.
Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of the England international and “personally driving” the Gunners’ interest. Initial talks over a move have already taken place with the player’s entourage.
Arteta believes that Rogers would be a statement signing to potentially replace Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard. Chelsea and Man Utd, however, remain interested in the 24-year-old as well. A bidding war would likely drive his price north of €100 million.
Perez approves Fernandez pursuit
Incumbent Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has greenlit the club’s pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, TEAMtalk claims.
The Argentina international, who is believed to dream of joining Los Blancos, has been identified as one of the best possible midfield options on the market by the club’s recruitment department, even though Perez’s personal preference remains Man City star Rodri.
Real Madrid are now actively exploring the feasibility of a deal, with Fernandez also fielding strong interest from PSG and Man City. The latter are set to appoint his former Chelsea mentor Enzo Maresca as their new manager. Fernandez could cost more than €100m.
Paz to stay at Como?
Nico Paz is keen to stay at Como despite a widespread expectation that he will be re-signed by Real Madrid this summer, Sky Italia states.
Despite selling the Argentina international in 2024, Los Blancos retain full control of his future via a buy-back clause. After opting against bringing him back last year, it seemed to be a formality that Paz would rejoin the club this summer.
However, after qualifying for the Champions League with Como, Paz is understood to want to stay and keep playing for Cesc Fabregas for another season. Real Madrid could still re-sign him next year, with the clause rising from €9m to €10m.
Chelsea back in for Maignan
Chelsea have reignited their interest in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, according to Calciomercato.
The Blues failed to sign the France international last year, with Maignan eventually agreeing a new contract with Milan. The club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League could now make him reconsider his future, however.
Chelsea are ready to pounce on this situation and are “ready to make an offer.” Incoming manager Xabi Alonso reportedly wants to sign a world-class, experienced goalkeeper.
Brentford to break the bank on El Mala
Brentford are ready to make Koln wonderkid Said El Mala their new club-record signing, Sky Germany has confirmed.
The Bees have made a whopping €40 million offer, with an additional €5m available in add-ons. This package would see the 19-year-old cost more than current record signing Dango Ouattara, who was bought for €42.8m last year.
El Mala initially wasn’t enthusiastic about the prospect of joining Brenford, but he is willing to discuss terms with the Bees if the two clubs can agree a fee. Brighton recently pulled out of a deal for him due to Koln’s hefty asking price.
