Arsenal and Liverpool have learned Bayern Munich are planning to include Alexander Nubel in a player-plus-cash offer to sign in-demand Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon, according to reports in Germany.
Gordon has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best forwards since joining Newcastle from Everton in January 2023, scoring 17 goals in all competitions this season.
Such has been the England international’s impressive form that Arsenal are continuing to run the rule over the 25-year-old, according to The Guardian, ahead of his expected summer departure from St. James’ Park.
The Telegraph also understands Liverpool have shortlisted boyhood fan Gordon as a possible alternative to RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who is currently the club’s preferred replacement for Mohamed Salah.
However, widespread reports have indicated that Bayern remain the frontrunners to sign Gordon, with The Times claiming the club are close to agreeing personal terms on a five-year contract.
While Bayern remain admirers of Gordon’s ability to play in various positions in attack, the Bundesliga giants are reportedly unwilling to match Newcastle’s €86million (£75m) asking price.
With Arsenal and Liverpool waiting in the wings for Gordon, German outlet BILD understands Bayern are now prepared to send goalkeeper Nubel the other way in attempt to conclude a deal with Newcastle.
The I Paper claims Newcastle are in the market for two goalkeepers this summer, with the club understood to be reticent to sign Southampton loanee Aaron Ramsdale on a permanent basis, while Nick Pope endured a difficult 2025-26 campaign.
Nubel’s future at Bayern remains up in the air after first-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer signed a new one-year contract earlier this month, while promising shot-stopper Jonas Urbig is also in their ranks.
Nubel has barely featured for Bayern since his arrival six years ago
Germany international Nubel joined Bayern from Schalke in 2020 but he has made just four appearances for the club, with the 29-year-old having spent the last five seasons on loan.
Nubel made 97 appearances for Ligue 1 side Monaco between 2021 and 2023 before joining Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart in what has become the first of three successive loan spells.
He has made 127 appearances in all competitions for Sebastien Hoeness’ Stuttgart, helping the club win the 2025 German Cup alongside current Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade.
Meanwhile, when asked if Gordon has played his last game for Newcastle following the 2-0 loss at Fulham on the final day of the Premier League season, manager Eddie Howe said: “I don’t know. You can never predict what is going to happen. He obviously goes to the World Cup [with England] now so we wish him well.”
