US President Donald Trump and his administration have faced growing criticism from lawmakers over reports of a potential agreement with Iran.
Speaking to CNN, Republican Senator Thom Tillis questioned why administration officials had previously claimed Iran’s capabilities were “obliterated” if Tehran would now be allowed to retain nuclear material under a future arrangement.
“There are a lot of things that need to be explained,” Tillis said, arguing that the reported framework appeared inconsistent with earlier statements by US officials.
His remarks followed criticism from Republican Senator Roger Wicker, who said the reported 60-day ceasefire agreement would be “a disaster”.
