The President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has served a strong hint that the Super Eagles will win this year’s Unity Cup in London, as he believes the players are in top form to deliver at any tournament they play.
Sports247 reports that Gusau spoke against the backdrop of a recent surge in league and cup conquests by many Nigerian players with their clubs, as he reckoned that the momentum will continue into their games with the national team.

With the team now set to battle Zimbabwe this Tursday in their first match at the 2026 Unity Cup, Gusau enthused that the winning aura from club level will spill over into the national camp.
Although many of the country’s key players are not in the roster released by Eagles’ coach, Eric Sekou Chelle, Gusau affirmed that the winning mentality of each player will rub off on every other Nigerian in the national team.
The NFF boss went on to congratulate each of the players for their achievements with their respective clubs, saying it’s always a thing of joy seeing the country’s stars winning trophies.
He noted further that the achievements of Nigeria’s top players with their clubs gives an indication that the Super Eagles will perform better at the Unity Cup and in days ahead, even as he charged them to seek greater glory with their various teams.
Gusau’s commendations came after Kelechi Iheanacho joined the latest array of Nigerian players to cart home trophies, as the attacker won the Scottish FA Cup with Celtic FC on Saturday, just a week after clinching the country’s league title.
Iheanacho’s conquest of the Scottish Premiership came a few days after league titles were also gained by Victor Osimhen with Galatasaray of Türkiye as well as the duo of Zaidu Sanusi and Terem Moffi at FC Porto of Portugal.
Raphael Onyedika also clinched the Belgian Pro League with Club Brugge, while Igoh Ogbu won the Czech First League with Slavia Prague, as Francis Odinaka Uzoho is also a champion with Omonia Nicosia of Cyprus.
Semi Ajayi was in action with Hull City on Saturday and helped them win the second-tier Championship play-off final, to gain promotion back to English Premier League, a few weeks after Frank Onyeka achieved it directly with Coventry City.
In reaction to the flood of success for the stars, Gusau declared: “The NFF is very happy with the achievements of these players in their various clubs and leagues. It is a thing of joy to see our players winning trophies here and there.
“It presents assurance that they are in good form to deliver whenever any international match or tournament comes up. We congratulate them warmly and wish them greater heights, while charging them not to rest on their oars.”
Sports247 reports further that four of the victorious lads – Moffi, Onyedika, Uzoho and Ogbu – are with the Eagles’ squad that will commence their defence of the Unity Cup this Tuesday versus Zimbabwe.
