Man Utd ‘confident’ in double midfield signing
Manchester United are reportedly ‘confident’ of securing a double midfield signing, with deals for Sandro Tonali and Ederson being lined up.
Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that United are ahead of Atletico Madrid in the race for Ederson, who will bid farewell to Atalanta after their final game of the season on Friday.
Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that ‘contacts’ will take place in the coming days for Ederson, with United among the teams interested in a player that Atalanta value at around €45 million.
United are keen to add at least two midfielders to their squad and Tonali is claimed by Di Marzio to be the other player, although Newcastle are thought to value the 26-year-old at more than €80m, which would make a deal difficult.
Casemiro finds new club
Inter Miami are closing in on the signing of Manchester United midfielder Casemiro despite concerns over whether a deal is feasible within Major League Soccer’s stringent transfer regulation framework.
Clubs from Europe, Brazil and Saudi Arabia wanted to sign Casemiro after he announced he would be leaving United on a free transfer, but the 34-year-old’s desire has been clear since March: he wants to move to MLS and, specifically, to Inter Miami.
Now, various reporters, including Fabrizio Romano, Ben Jacobs and Tom Bogert, state that the veteran is on the verge of linking up with Miami. Casemiro has informed his other suitors that he is joining the Herons.
However, it wouldn’t be a major Inter Miami deal without some consternation and controversy. Jacobs reports that the Herons are “optimistic” about fitting Casemiro into their salary cap despite some worries over MLS’s rules.
Charles deal becomes possibility after ‘spygate’
Man Utd could also take advantage of the ‘Spygate’ controversy in the Championship by pursuing a deal for Southampton star Shea Charles.
Southampton are set for another season in the Championship after being expelled from the play-offs despite Charles scoring in the win over Middlesbrough in the semi-finals.
United have reportedly held a long-standing interest in Charles and have been watching the 22-year-old all season, with The Mirror now claiming that the Red Devils could step up their chase for the midfielder.
Charles has netted six goals and two assists this season and is said to be valued at £20m (€23.1m), having come through the academy of United’s rivals Manchester City before joining the Saints in 2023 for €12m.
Man Utd favourites for Fernandes
Man Utd have “barged their rivals aside” in the race to sign West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, TEAMtalk claims.
The Red Devils have held fresh talks with the player’s camp and are now believed to be firmly in pole position to secure his signing. However, West Ham continue to insist on a fee north of €90 million.
The 21-year-old, though, is very keen on the move. He idolises Man Utd captain and compatriot Bruno Fernandes and would like to link up with him at club level. If West Ham get relegated on Sunday, they will likely have to lower their demands for Fernandes.
