The holiday island of Gran Canaria has been rocked by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake.
Tremors were felt by locals and tourists throughout the island territory at 9.50am local time this morning, with reports from various geographical points of the archipelago. Early reports say the quake was also felt on the neighbouring Canary island of Fuerteventura.
It was registered with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 by the Canary Islands Seismic Network, which clarified urgently that the movement has no relation to the seismicity of Tenerife.
It is not immediately clear if the quake has caused any damage or resulted in casualties. Authorities say anyone hurt or suffering damage should contact the emergency services.
