Arsenal are interested in making a move for Julian Alvarez and could sanction a transfer this summer with Barcelona making a decision on a deal
Arsenal have been handed a boost in their hopes of signing Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, with Barcelona reportedly cooling their interest. Arsenal have been long-term admirers of the former Man City man.
The Gunners face plenty of competition for the striker. Atletico boss Diego Simeone has confirmed interest from Arsenal as well as Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Signing a striker was a priority for Arsenal last season as they looked to turn three second-placed finishes into a title. They spent £64 million on Viktor Gyokeres and while the Sweden international has had a mixed season, he has played a part in some crucial moments in helping Arsenal to the Premier League title and Champions League final.

To kick on and look to defend their title effectively next season, Arsenal could again look to strengthen attacking areas in the transfer window, with planning starting quickly. Alvarez would be a signing that would turn heads around Europe.
It seems that they could have less competition for the Argentine. According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have cooled their interest in Alvarez, and are instead turning their attention to Chelsea striker Joao Pedro.
The report says that Barcelona assess their chances of beating PSG and Arsenal to the signing of Alvarez as ‘impossible’.
The club are on the lookout for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski who will leave at the end of the season.
Alvarez has scored 20 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions for Atletico this season, including a goal in the 1-1 draw of the first leg of the Champions League semi-final last month.

Alvarez was quizzed on a potential move earlier this year. “Who knows?” he said. “Maybe yes, maybe no, you never know. I’m very happy here. I’m focused on the day-by-day, I work to improve and to give it my best here.
“I’ve never said anything nor spoken bad about the club so I’m very thankful. The supporters showed me their love as well, so I’m very happy.”
