Gianluca Prestianni’s six-match ban for discriminatory conduct has been extended globally by FIFA.
The Benfica winger will now miss Argentina’s first two matches at this summer’s World Cup if included in their final squad.

Prestianni was banned by UEFA last month following an investigation into alleged abuse directed at Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.
The accusations followed the Champions League knockout play-off tie between Benfica and Real Madrid in February.
Vinicius Jr had accused Prestianni of racism, although UEFA’s statement confirming the ban indicated he had been sanctioned for homophobic abuse.
The 20-year-old was handed a six-match ban by European football’s governing body, with three of those games suspended for two years.
FIFA have now extended the suspension, which was initially for European competitions, worldwide at the request of UEFA.
Although friendlies and domestic fixtures are not covered by the ban, this summer’s World Cup in North America will be.
Having served the first match of the ban provisionally during February’s second leg, Prestianni has two matches remaining.
Those will be Argentina’s opening two matches of the World Cup if he is named in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the tournament.
Prestianni has one senior cap to his name, having made his international debut against Angola in November.
However, he was included in the three-time world champions’ latest side to face Zambia.

Despite being an unused substitute for that match, Prestianni could be a part of the Argentina squad this summer.
The forward has scored three goals and provided five assists in 39 appearances across all competitions for Benfica this season.
Argentina are set to begin their World Cup campaign against Algeria on June 16.
Their tournament opener follows warm-up matches against Honduras and Iceland earlier in June.
Prestianni would be eligible for those friendlies, but cannot face Algeria as well as being banned for the match against Austria on June 22.
If included in the squad, he can make his first appearance of the World Cup in Argentina’s final group stage contest against Jordan.

Scaloni’s side conclude the opening round in Arlington, Texas on June 27.
FIFA will confirm all official World Cup squad lists by June 2, although national teams can announce them at any time before the deadline.
