Austin Slater’s time as a New York Met has been as short-lived as his ill-fated stint with their crosstown rivals.
The outfielder only signed a major league deal with the Mets at the end of April after being released by the Miami Marlins following just 12 appearances this season.
Yet, his time at Citi Field has already come to an end with the Mets designating Slater for assignment on Tuesday, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
Slater hit .250/.286/.300 with one RBI in 21 plate appearances spanning nine games for the Mets since returning to New York.
Slater’s replacement on the Mets’ active roster is outfield prospect Nick Morabito, according to SNY MLB Insider Chelsea Janes.
The 23-year-old is hitting .253/.364/.390 with four homers, six doubles, one triple, and 14 stolen bases in 41 games for Triple-A Syracuse so far this season.

Slater did not appear in Monday’s 16-7 12-inning victory over the Washington Nationals amid the emergence of the Mets’ young rookie talent.
AJ Ewing has cemented himself as a solid option in the outfield for Carlos Mendoza alongside Juan Soto and Carson Benge.
Meanwhile, Tyrone Taylor, Brett Baty and MJ Melendez also add depth to the Mets’ roster.
Slater’s release marks his second ill-fated stint in New York with his time with the Yankees also proving unremarkable.
The Yankees acquired Slater at the trade deadline in a deal with the Chicago White Sox that saw Gage Ziehl head the other way.
He hit .120/.120/.120 across 25 plate appearances with the Pinstripes before suffering a hamstring injury.
He began this season with the Miami Marlins following his release by the Detroit Tigers on March 21, after failing to win a major league job in spring training.
He was designated by the Marlins in April and elected free agency after clearing the waivers.
