Police have arrested the son of the billionaire Mango founder nearly 18 months after the fashion tycoon plunged to his death while on a hike – questions have surrounded the businessman’s death
Police in have arrested the son of the billionaire founder of the Spanish fashion brand Mango, after he plunged to his death from a cliff during a hike.
Isak Andic, 71, died in December 2024 while on a trail with his son Jonathan Andic, 45, in the mountains near Barcelona. An investigation into the death was opened at the time but closed a few weeks later. It was reopened in March 2025, and in October police confirmed the death was being investigated as a possible homicide.
The fashion mogul’s oldest son, who was the only person on the hike with the 71-year-old, was arrested by police, in Catalonia, this morning for allegedly having played a role in Isak’s death.
Jonathan Andic was taken to court facilities in Martorell, a city in eastern Spain where the case is being investigated, said a spokesperson for the Catalan regional police, Mossos d’Esquadra.
The death was initially treated as an accident with police saying there was no indication of a crime, back on December 14, 2024.
‘Inconsistent statements’
Turkish-born Isak and his son had been on a trail near the Collbato Caves in the Montserrat mountain range when the incident happened. Jonathan told police he had been walking in front of his dad when the 71-year-old allegedly fell off the edge.
The son said the pair had been at the narrow Les Feixades trail, popular with families, but the authorities previously described the path as “not especially dangerous”.
Police reportedly said that forensic analysis of the area did not add up with the son’s version of events and described the statements given by Jonathan as inconsistent, according to the Olive Press.
Only eyewitness
Just the father and son had been on the hike and police said Jonathan was the only eyewitness in this case. Investigators reportedly revealed the son had been to the same hiking trail a few days before the incident, but defence sources claimed this was to prepare for the journey, according to El Pais.

Jonathan Andic is the eldest of Isak Andic’s three children and one of his father’s heirs. He is the vice chairman of the board at Mango, one of Spain’s biggest retailers.
A spokesperson for the Andic family confirmed Jonathan was being questioned over his father’s death but added, “we cannot add much more because the case is under a court-ordered gag order”. The Andic family has also said it is confident Jonathan is innocent.
Isak Andic’s family moved from Turkey to Spain when he was young. He opened Mango’s first store in Barcelona in 1984 and over the following decades helped Mango grow into one of Europe’s leading fast fashion makers.
Mango has 2,900 stores in 120 markets around the world. The fashion group’s revenue hit a record high of nearly 3.8 billion euros in 2025, an 11% increase from the previous year.
