Iran’s president has urged the country to “adopt a war posture” amid fears the conflict with the US could restart in mere days. Masoud Pezeshkian warned officials against painting a “false image” of the state of the country during the conflict, according to the state news agency Mehr.
He added: “If we are in a state of war, we must adopt a war posture… Officials should speak honestly to society and avoid presenting a false image of our absolute prosperity in the face of destruction of the other side. We are also facing serious challenges.”
Mr Pezeshkian said power plants, petrochemical industries, and steel facilities have been targeted, adding that Iran “should not falsely claim that we have no problems and that the enemy is being destroyed”.
The US President wrote in a post on Truth Social on Sunday: “For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE! President DJT”.
This was followed hours later by an AI image of himself pushing what appears to be a nuclear button, while mushroom-shaped plumes are shown on screens behind him.
Fears that the conflict, currently paused by a ceasefire, could begin again as soon as this week have been spiralling following reports that the US and Israel are preparing weapons.
Mr Trump appeared to issue another thinly-veiled threat to Iran in a post published late on Saturday on Truth Social. The US President shared an AI-generated image of himself at the top of a military vessel navigating rough waters.
The image also included military vessels bearing the Iranian flag in the background, and the wording: “It was the calm before the storm”.
The image also showed lightning striking down from dark clouds. Mr Trump didn’t add any caption or more references to Iran in his social media post.
