A member of Nigeria’s men’s 4x100m relay team, Favour Ashe has explained that the quartet had to settle for a silver medal at this year’s African Senior Athletics Championship in Accra, Ghana because they had a faulty baton exchange.
Sports247 reports that, while the fast-rising sprinter from Delta State acknowledged that the team gave it their best shot and they actually started well, just one mix-up within a split second towards the end saw them miss the gold medal by whiskers.

He, however, gave thanks to God for their podium finish and enthused that the athletes have all learnt a huge lesson heading into this year’s Commonwealth Games, where he believes they will correct all wrongs and do better when it matters.
Ashe added his personal experience to his review and admitted that he actually found the going tough over the last two years but enthused that winning a silver medal in Accra has opened the path for an expected turnaround of fortunes in his career.
“Firstly, I want to give thanks to God Almighty for the win. We wanted gold, but I’m happy we made it to the podium. There are a few rooms for improvement. We could have gotten the gold. The last baton exchange was a bit shaky.
“The Commonwealth Games is the big goal for me this year. I want to take my career seriously and I want to fully harness my talent. The last year and a half have been rough for me. So, I’m using this year to get back on my feet,” Ashe affirmed.
