Manchester United-linked Federico Valverde has told Real Madrid that he does not want to leave the club in the summer, according to reports in Spain.

There has been speculation surrounding Valverde’s future after he was involved in an altercation with team-mate Aurelien Tchouameni last week, with the pair each receiving €500,000 (£435,000) fines from Real.

Valverde subsequently went to hospital with a head injury following the row with Tchouameni, though the Uruguay international denied they “came to blows” and said he accidentally hit a table.

The Daily Star claimed earlier this week that United were weighing up whether to make a move for Valverde, with reports elsewhere indicating that the Premier League side are looking to sign at least two midfielders as part of a planned revamp this summer.

However, according to Spanish publication AS, Valverde has told interested parties that he wants to remain a Real player heading into the 2026-27 season, despite his recent struggles at the Bernabeu.

The same outlet claims Valverde, who is reportedly valued between €100million and €120m (£87m and £104m), has also attracted interest from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Pep Guardiola’s City ran the rule over the 27-year-old last summer before eventually deciding to sign Tijjani Reijnders from Serie A giants AC Milan, according to AS.

Valverde has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world following his breakthrough in 2018, making 372 appearances for Real and scoring 41 goals in all competitions.

While it remains to be seen where Valverde’s long-term future lies, Jose Mourinho is in final negotiations to replace Alvaro Arbeloa as Real’s next head coach, according to BBC Sport.

Should Mourinho and Real reach an agreement, it would see the Portuguese complete a dramatic return to the club he managed between 2011 and 2013, winning three honours including the 2011-12 La Liga title.

Analysis: Man Utd hierarchy are monitoring several midfielders

Meanwhile, widespread reports claim United have made strengthening their midfield a priority this summer, with several players under consideration.

BBC Sport understands the Red Devils are interested in Real’s Tchouameni, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, while Crystal Palace ace Adam Wharton has also been monitored.
