Trump says Xi pledged not arm Iran

US President Donald Trump has said that President Xi Jinping offered China’s help to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and vowed not to send arms to Iran during a meeting between the leaders in Beijing.

“He said he’s not going to give military equipment… he said that strongly,” Trump told Fox News on Thursday.

“He’d like to see the Hormuz Strait open, and said ‘if I can be of any help whatsoever, I would like to help’,” he added.

President Xi said earlier on Thursday that he is “ready to work” with Trump to open a new chapter in US-China relations, in a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
