An Iranian official has warned that Tehran will confront the presence of French and British warships in the Strait of Hormuz, raising tensions in the strategic waterway.
Iran’s deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi condemend Western naval deployments, saying they risk escalating the crisis rather than ensuring stability.
“Any deployment or positioning of destroyers around the Strait of Hormuz under the pretext of protecting navigation is nothing but an escalation of the crisis.”
He warned that Iran would act if the presence continues.
“The presence of French and British warships in the Strait of Hormuz will be met with an immediate and decisive response.”
The official rejected the use of military force as a means of securing maritime routes.
“Maritime security is not achieved through displays of military force.”
