The Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association organized a one-day Leadership Summit and Leadership Awards on May 13, 2026, at the CIBN Banquet Hall, Babcock University, with the theme “Igniting Greatness.”
The event attracted over 160 football coaches from different local governments across Ogun State, making it one of the largest gatherings of coaches in the state in recent times. The summit focused on leadership development, modern coaching methods, and administrative growth within football coaching.

Among the dignitaries present were respected CAF instructor Baba Adeshina and newly appointed Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari, both of whom were honoured with leadership awards for their contributions to football development.
Delivering a keynote lecture during the summit, Folorunso-Ako E. Oladimeji, a PhD holder from Babcock University, challenged coaches to constantly evaluate their leadership impact through self-assessment questions.
According to him, coaches should ask themselves important questions including: “Do my players trust my leadership?”, “Does my team function without constant supervision?”, “Am I developing leaders within the team?”, “Do I balance performance with athletes’ welfare?”, and “What legacy am I creating?”
Former training officer Henry Eniola Oviavwe also spoke extensively on the duties, responsibilities, and functions attached to executive positions within the association structure.
The outgoing state chairman, Olaseinde Bankole, popularly known as “Zico,” was specially appreciated by the association and honoured with a leadership award by his successor in recognition of his service and contributions during his tenure.
Speaking at the event, the newly elected chairman, Victor Damilola Agbagu, advised coaches on the importance of understanding players’ contracts and continuously improving their technical and tactical knowledge to meet modern football coaching standards.
The state training officer and his assistant also emphasized the importance of leadership qualities in football management, noting that effective leadership remains crucial for player development, discipline, and team success.
Participants described the summit as impactful and educational, with many commending the association for organizing a program focused on personal growth, professionalism, and the future of football coaching in Ogun State.
