Leandro Trossard’s late goal against West Ham might well win Arsenal the Premier League title and if so the Belgian deserves legendary status in north London
Leandro Trossard’s match-winning goal against West Ham United could be his most important for the club he joined in 2023. What is startling about the goal is that this was the Belgian’s first in 2026.
Trossard’s previous strike which hit the back of the net came against Aston Villa on December 30, 2025. He has struggled for form for whatever reason, but recently has seen a serious upturn in his performances.
Starting against Fulham, he provided the assists for Viktor Gyokeres’ second goal of the game, and was unfortunate not to have earned an assist for Riccardo Calafiori earlier in the clash were it not for the Italian’s run causing him to move into an offside position.

He then started against Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners reached the UEFA Champions League final. Trossard is no stranger to massive goals, scoring against Bayern Munich in 2024 and the equaliser against FC Porto in the round before.
He has scored against Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United during his time with the club. But this goal away to West Ham could prove the difference between winning and choking the title.
“Well, there is a player that makes a difference for us,” Mikel Arteta said when asked about Trossard after the win. “As ever, it is impossible to maintain the level, especially with what we demand of the players.
“I think recently it has been really, really good. I think the game that has been played this week has been phenomenal, and he has made a difference.”
It may be that Trossard leaves this summer, suggestions are that there is interest from clubs and considering Arsenal are understood to be keen on signing a new left winger, minutes could become even more restricted next season were he to stay. But, if Arsenal lift this Premier League title, as they are now expected to do, Trossard should be considered a legend for what he has helped achieve.

This comes out with either a goal or an assist every 138 minutes, better than one in every two 90 minute contributions.
Signed for around £21million with £7million in add-ons, not only should Trossard gain legendary status if Arsenal do go on to win the league, but he must also go down as one of the best bargains and arguably the best January signing the club ever made.
