Renee Slegers looks set to be reinforced by a double signing, which will transform her Arsenal side’s attacking options
Arsenal are reportedly close to land two new stars for the women’s squad for next season. Renee Slegers is targeting a much-improved effort from her team, who, as European champions, failed to lift a single trophy.
Despite rallying in the second half of the campaign and failing to reach a successive UEFA Women’s Champions League final after Lyon’s comeback, the club are set to go again. There is ambition, just like from the Arsenal men’s team perspective, to improve the team and give Slegers the resources to end the long wait for a Women’s Super League title.
Georgia Stanway and Ona Battle are already expected to join the club after talks earlier in the season. However, Tim Stillman has reported that now the Gunners are close to agreeing deals to sign Selina Cerci and Lisa Baum.

Cerci, 26, was the joint-top scorer in the Bundesliga last season, scoring 16 times. She has 20 caps for the German national side, where she has scored five goals.
Baum, on the other hand, is another young addition, at just 19 years of age. Having spent just a single season with RB Leipzig, who even beat the likes of Bayern Munich to her signing, it seems that is all it has taken to encourage Arsenal to swoop.
Scoring five times, the winger is set to offer Slegers more options. With Beth Mead having departed, it was obvious more was needed.
Alessia Russo (13) and Stina Blackstenius (10) were the top scorers with no other players in double-figures; the next closest in the WSL season was Frida Maanum with six. There is hope that Olivia Smith will kick on after her record-breaking transfer last summer, emboldened by the additions of Stanway, Battle, Baum and Cerci it could be stacking up to be an exciting campaign where the ambition to grab silverware is strong.
