Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said a ground military operation inside Iran to seize enriched uranium remains a possible option, revealing that US President Donald Trump had expressed willingness to take direct action.
In media interviews on Sunday, Netanyahu and Trump said the military campaign against Iran would continue until what they described as the Iranian nuclear and missile threat is fully neutralised.
Asked whether the war had ended, Netanyahu replied that the campaign had “achieved a lot” but was “not over yet”, outlining remaining objectives including the removal of enriched uranium, dismantling enrichment facilities, halting ballistic missile production and weakening Iranian-backed groups.
When questioned about how enriched uranium could be removed from Iranian territory, Netanyahu said: “Go in and take over.”
He did not specify whether such an operation would involve Israeli or American special forces, but said Trump had told him during discussions: “I want to go in there.”
According to Netanyahu, the key issue is ensuring there is political agreement or a decision to carry out the operation, rather than which forces would execute it.
Trump also said significant damage had already been inflicted on Iran’s capabilities, estimating that around 70 per cent of targets had been destroyed, while warning that additional strikes could take place “in two weeks” if necessary.
