Chelsea are expected to be very busy in the upcoming summer transfer window with BlueCo tweaking their recruitment strategy behind the scenes
Chelsea legend Joe Cole has advised BlueCo to scrap their transfer model this summer and instead look at investing in experienced players to help the Blues.
Since BlueCo bought Chelsea from Roman Abramovich almost four years ago, the consortium, led by Behdad Eghbali, have spent almost £2billion on recruiting new players. The figure comes to just short of £1.9bn in total, with the majority of those who have arrived at Stamford Bridge being a young, relatively inexperienced player.
They would quite often be from abroad as well, meaning adjusting to the Premier League, for some, has been an issue. However, ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window, BlueCo, sources say, are set to change their model when it comes to signing players.

football.london understands Chelsea are looking to bring in Premier League proven players in the summer, with a centre-back, central midfielder and left-sided winger among the top priorities in west London. While BlueCo will not completely deviate from their recruitment model, there will be slight alterations.
That must be good news for Cole, who believes his former club need to add experience to their young squad in time for the 2026/27 season.
Speaking to The Sun, Cole said: “I think of experienced players who can come into the squad and help out immediately. So you’re looking at who’s available – I’m thinking players like John Stones, [Robert] Lewandowski, he’s coming to the end of his contract, we need a centre-forward.
“He probably fancies the Premier League and living in London, give him a year-long contract to come and play 35 games for us and help out Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. They need those types of players.”
Cole added: “Jordan Henderson, I said Jordan Henderson last season and people laughed. Look at what Brentford Football Club have done, and nobody’s going, ‘hold on a minute’.
“I know he’s not been blowing the doors off on Match of the Day. But he sets the tone, and he’s helped players around him, all the intangible things you can’t see. We spent all this money on young players, but they have no one around them.”
Chelsea are currently looking for their next permanent head coach following Liam Rosenior’s departure last month. Among the options to replace Rosenior are Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Xabi Alonso, though nothing is said to be advanced just yet, with Chelsea taking their time to conduct a thorough process, led by the club’s five sporting directors.
