The Nigeria Cricket Federation has announced the maiden edition of the Nigeria Super League, a new elite domestic cricket competition scheduled to hold from May 16 to May 31, 2026, at the TBS Oval, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
According to details released by the federation, the tournament will feature six teams competing in 20 matches across 15 days in what organisers described as a “new era of cricket” in Nigeria.
The participating teams are Central Eagles CC, Eastern Elephants CC, Middle-Belt Tigers CC, Northern Lions CC, Southern Sharks CC, and Western Dolphins CC.
The competition is expected to showcase some of the country’s top cricket talents while boosting the profile of the sport locally.
The federation also confirmed the captains that will lead the six franchises into the inaugural edition of the tournament.
National team star Peter Aho will captain Central Eagles CC, while Taiwo Mohammed will lead Eastern Elephants CC. Sulaimon Runsewe has been named captain of Middle-Belt Tigers CC, with Sylvester Okpe heading Northern Lions CC.
Isaac Okpe will skipper Southern Sharks CC, while Vincent Adewoye takes charge of Western Dolphins CC.
Organisers said the league is designed to promote high-intensity T20 cricket and strengthen domestic competition in the country.
The Nigeria Super League will see two matches played daily, with one team emerging champion at the end of the tournament.
