Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for PSG winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in recent weeks, but it is Bradley Barcola who could actually end up at the Emirates this summer.
The France international is once again becoming the subject of rampant transfer speculation. Already last year, Barcola’s future came into focus as he lost his place in the PSG team to January signing Kvaratskhelia.
It was reported that the Parisians wanted to hand him a new contract, but that the 23-year-old was unconvinced about extending due to his uncertain place in the team. To date, there is still no agreement between Barcola and PSG.
In the summer, Liverpool expressed an interest in signing Barcola as an alternative to Alexander Isak. However, PSG made it clear that the versatile attacker was not for sale, compelling the Reds to spend a Premier League record fee on the Newcastle striker.
Despite making 45 appearances this season, including 22 starts, the tension between Barcola and PSG has not subsided. On the contrary, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg states that the winger is still not entirely happy, having racked up just short of 2,800 minutes this term.
Arsenal barge into Barcola race
Consequently, the journalist states that “a summer transfer is possible.” Barcelona, Liverpool and, intriguingly, Arsenal have all been alerted to the possibility that Barcola could be available after this season.
Plettenberg insists that the Gunners, in particular, are showing a very strong interest in the 23-year-old. They have made contact with his camp and are aware of his financial demands.
Arsenal are one of numerous top clubs looking for a marquee left-winger this summer. Barcelona are eyeing up potential alternatives for Marcus Rashford, but Barcola is likely to prove too expensive.
Liverpool, though, will be a genuine rival for the North London club. It was recently revealed that they had already reignited their long-standing interest ahead of the summer as they look for a Mohamed Salah replacement and a Cody Gakpo upgrade.
Bayern Munich are also in the market for a left-winger to provide competition for Luis Diaz, but Plettenberg reports that they are currently not in the race to sign Barcola, despite a strong appreciation from director Max Eberl, who wanted him last summer. The PSG star’s wages are deemed excessive.
The Bavarians are instead focusing on Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, who has also been linked with Arsenal. Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reports that there is a “real chance” of him moving this summer, with the Bundesliga champions in active talks over signing him.
Meanwhile, Plettenberg has revealed that Bayern will not meet Newcastle’s current demands. He has confirmed recent reporting that the St. James’ Park club are asking for up to €90 million, though there is a feeling among sources that Gordon will ultimately cost €75m-€85m.
By contrast, it is not yet entirely clear how much Barcola would cost. He was signed by PSG for €45m in 2023 and has increased his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) to €70.6m in recent months.
