Hockey scout, 85, goes viral for making wildly inappropriate comment to stunning TV host on live broadcast

An 85-year-old hockey scout has gone viral after making a wildly inappropriate comment to a female TV host during an interview.

On Wednesday evening, Vancouver Giants head scout Terry Bonner spoke to the media just moments after the team made two selections in the WHL Prospects Draft.

However, their picks were immediately overshadowed by the excruciatingly awkward moment, after Bonner commented on the interviewer’s looks rather than the Draft.

‘Congratulations on a huge pick in Eli Vickers at third overall. What made him a good fit for the Giants organization?’, host Cami Kepke asked.

A beaming Bonner replied: ‘Well thank you very much. You’re a good looking girl’.

Bonner seemed as though he tried to laugh off the awkward remark but there was silence from within the studio after the comment.

The Giants scout eventually went on to discuss the pick but the damage was already done and his ‘compliment’ to Kepke immediately went viral on social media.

‘Very cringe worthy,’ one fan wrote on X in response to a clip from the interview.

Meanwhile, another fan who was left uncomfortable by the interaction simply wrote: ‘Ewwwww’.

Some fans did attempt to defend Bonner, who is well regarded within the hockey community due to his long career scouting talent on the ice.

‘Relax, Terry’s a great guy and a very nice man,’ one fan wrote in his defense.

However, while some tried to play down the comments, one fan wrote: ‘I think instead of immediately defending him, you should think about how she had to feel embarrassed on tv while she was just trying to do her job’.

Kepke has not commented on the viral moment on any of her social media accounts.

Unfortunately for Giants scout Bonner, Kepke recently got engaged to long-term boyfriend Dylan Sakatch and will officially tie the knot with him in August.

Meanwhile, speaking to the Vancouver Giants website, Bonner did eventually reflect on the selection of Eli Vickers, as well as forward Brayden Jugnauth.

‘First and foremost, Eli Vickers is a real fine young man,’ Giants Head Scout Bonner said. ‘He does everything really, really well. He wants the puck.

‘He makes plays and he’s second to none in his work ethic for the game. His awareness is really good. He angles, contains and finishes checks really well [and has] good gap control. He just plays hard.’

The Giants, who are a Canadian minor league hockey team, finished bottom of the WHL Western Conference last season after losing 39 of their 68 league games.

They’ll be hoping that the additions of both Vickers and Jugnauth will help change their fortunes when they head into the 2026-27 season. Â
