‘We Have A Real Chance!’ Elonu Optimistic After Draw — Former D’Tigress Star Backs Nigeria At World Cup

Former D’Tigress forward Adaora Elonu has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s chances at the upcoming FIBA Women’s World Cup following the tournament draw.

Nigeria have been placed in Group B alongside Hungary, South Korea, and France — a group Elonu believes presents an opportunity for the team to compete strongly.

“We have a favourable chance,” she said.

According to the former international, the group is challenging but manageable if the team continues to improve and prepare properly.

“It’s a good opportunity for us,” she implied.

Elonu pointed to the team’s recent tour in the United States as a major advantage, noting that the high-level friendlies exposed areas that need improvement before the tournament begins.

“The US tour helped a lot,” she noted.

She emphasized that playing against elite opposition provided valuable lessons in tactics, intensity, and game management.

“We learned important things,” she added.

For Elonu, the key now is using those experiences to sharpen the squad ahead of September.

“We must build on it,” she stressed.

She also highlighted the importance of confidence and teamwork, especially against experienced sides like France.

“We need belief,” she said.

As preparations continue, expectations will remain high for D’Tigress to once again compete strongly on the global stage.

For Elonu, the message is clear.

Prepare properly.

Learn from every game.

And believe in the team.

Because in international basketball, confidence and preparation can change everything.
