Odegaard, Timber, Merino – Arsenal injuries and return dates after Atletico win as West Ham await

Arsenal booked their place in the Champions League final on Tuesday night and will be hoping to have as many players as possible fit for the match

Arsenal will want to have as many players available as possible for their final few games of the season, with two trophies now a real possibility. Mikel Arteta’s side ended a successful week by booking a place in the Champions League final.

Bukayo Saka’s first-half goal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night was enough to see Arsenal record an aggregate 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in the semi-final. The Gunners will find out their opponents after Wednesday night’s semi-final between Bayern Munich and PSG.

The win came just a matter of days after Arsenal took a step closer to the Premier League title. A 3-0 win over Fulham was followed by Man City dropping points with a 3-3 draw against Everton over the weekend.

The results move Arsenal five points clear of their rivals, although City do still have one game in hand. Arteta’s team are back in action on Sunday when they take on West Ham United at the London Stadium.

After what has been a gruelling week, football.london have taken a look at the latest from the treatment room at the Emirates Stadium.

Martin Odegaard

Injury: knee

The club captain made his comeback from an injury suffered in the first leg as a second-half substitute in the second leg against Atletico Madrid.

What has been said: “We have to take it a little day by day,” Odegaard told Norwegian TV after the game.

Potential return date: Vs West Ham (A), Sun 10 May.

Jurrien Timber

Injury: Ankle

The full-back has missed the last 11 games in all competitions due to an ankle injury.

What has been said: “We don’t know yet, he’s doing some stuff on the pitch at the moment, but we need to get the gears up and be able to do more things before he can compete with us,” Arteta said last week.

Potential return date: Unknown

Mikel Merino

Injury: Foot

The midfielder faces a race against time after undergoing surgery on a fractured foot. There is a possibility that he could make a return for the final games of the season.

What has been said: “He’s another one that is going to push every boundary. He’s out of his boot now. He’s doing quite a lot of exercises already. He’s reacted really well to the surgery. He’s got no pain… I’m sure there is a chance to make that period shorter.”

Potential return date: Late May
