Israel pursuing systematic annexation in West Bank, campaign says

Ramzi Odeh, Secretary-General of the International Academic Campaign Against Occupation, said Israel is pursuing a systematic policy of annexation in the occupied West Bank, with the intention of displacement and what he described as “eradication” carried out by Israeli forces and settlers.

Speaking to the Egyptian TV channel Nile News on Tuesday, Odeh stated that recent Israeli laws and the construction of thousands of housing units clearly demonstrate Israel’s intention to annex the West Bank.

He added that these developments are part of a broader effort to weaken the Palestinian Authority, marginalise its role, and leave it unable to maintain security, govern effectively, or ensure stability.

Odeh warned there is no political horizon in the West Bank, with no discussion of a Palestinian state, the right to self-determination, a freeze on settlements, or the protection of Palestinians’ economic and social rights.

He also said the US-Israeli war on Iran has affected Gulf states and regional stability, including in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, noting that the conflict has reduced the prominence of the Palestinian issue on the international agenda.
