Arsenal are set to reap the financial rewards of qualifying for their first Champions League final since 2006 after battling past Atletico Madrid for a place in Budapest
Arsenal have banked an additional £15.97million in UEFA prize money after reaching the Champions League final following victory over Atletico Madrid.
The Gunners will now meet Bayern Munich or holders Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30 as they bid to win the competition for the first time in the club’s illustrious history.
A further £5.61m is up for grabs in Hungary later this month but Arsenal have now claimed a whopping £125.18m in Champions League prize money this season.
It’s been a remarkable European campaign from Mikel Arteta’s side, who topped the group phase standings with a perfect record of eight wins from eight.

With help from the initial TV money which was distributed amongst participating clubs plus the rankings pool (£49.6m), Arsenal netted £85.3m in prize money before they even kicked a ball during the knockout stages.
That’s without accounting for their actual on-field results as their eight league phase victories were worth an impressive total of £15.8m.
As mentioned, they also finished first out of all 36 group-phase participants, which was worth an extra £8.6m in cash and because they immediately reached the last 16 via a top-eight finish, they were handed an extra £11.3m.
Arsenal then eliminated Bayer Leverkusen to reach the quarter-finals following a 1-1 draw in Germany and 2-0 home win at the Emirates Stadium, worth an extra £10.8m.
Beating Portuguese opponents Sporting CP in the last-eight was also worth a bonus of £10.8m and while the Gunners obviously do not solely play for financial rewards, it’s the kind of money that will help bolster their accounts when reflected against Profit and Sustainability Rules and other financial regulations.
Additionally, those funds could also help supplement the club’s summer transfer budget when sporting director Andrea Berta will seek to strengthen Arteta’s squad.
Last season, Arsenal banked £98.63m in Champions League prize money after reaching the semi-finals where they were eventually eliminated by PSG.
The eventual winners PSG won around £121.7m, meaning Arsenal are now agonisingly close to surpassing that total, something which they will achieve with victory in Budapest.
