Nigerian sprint star Favour Ashe has expressed mixed feelings following Team Nigeria’s performances at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, acknowledging progress while admitting there were missed opportunities.

Competing across multiple relay events, Ashe was part of the mixed 4x100m team that secured qualification for the inaugural World Ultimate Championships set to take place in Budapest in 2026.
“It was a great experience,” he said.
The quartet of Ashe, Jennifer Chukwuka-Obi, Chidera Ezeakor, and Maria Thompson delivered a solid performance, clocking 40.24 seconds to finish fourth in their heat.
“We showed promise,” he implied.
However, Ashe admitted disappointment with the team’s showing in other events, particularly the men’s 4x400m, where Nigeria failed to finish strongly.
“That was disappointing,” he noted.
In the men’s 4x100m event, Nigeria recorded a season-best time of 38.31 seconds but finished fifth, narrowly missing out as South Africa and Ghana edged ahead.
“We were close,” he added.
For Ashe, the performances highlight both the potential and the areas that need improvement as the team builds toward future competitions.
“We must improve,” he stressed.
He emphasized the importance of consistency, baton exchanges, and finishing strength, key elements that can make the difference at elite level.
“It’s about the details,” he said.
As Nigeria looks ahead to upcoming championships, the focus will be on refining performances and converting promise into results.
For Ashe, the message is clear.
Progress is good.
But execution wins medals.
And Nigeria must get both right.
