A young South African athlete, Sebastian Palmer, has shared his excitement and optimism after making his international debut at the ongoing 15th African Armwrestling Championship in Accra.
Competing in the youth 70–75kg left-hand category, Sebastian—who only began armwrestling in 2025—is already gaining valuable exposure on the continental stage. The championship, taking place at the Borteyman Sports Complex, marks his first trip outside South Africa, adding a personal milestone to his sporting journey.

Speaking in an interview with Sports247Naija, after winning gold medal in Junior Boys 80kg left, the young athlete expressed his delight at the experience and the opportunity to connect with fellow competitors from across Africa.
“This is my first time out of South Africa. I feel amazed meeting my African brothers and sisters,” he said, highlighting the sense of unity and cultural exchange fostered by the event.
Sebastian also praised the host nation for its hospitality, noting the warm reception extended to participants. “I appreciate the warm welcome by the host, and I believe armwrestling’s future is bright,” he added.
Despite being relatively new to the sport, Sebastian is already convinced of its appeal and potential. He described armwrestling as more engaging than many other sports and expressed confidence in his own development.
Looking ahead, he remains optimistic about his growth and future participation in major competitions, particularly the 2027 African Games in Cairo, where he hopes to further establish himself.
His story reflects the increasing influx of young talent into armwrestling across the continent, reinforcing the sport’s rapid growth and promising future in Africa.
